Spend tiers workshop: what we anonymize and why

Governance cohorts asked for spend tiers examples that feel grounded. We built anonymized allocation curves from past exercises, stripped identifiers, and jittered small values to prevent reverse engineering. Trainers repeat that the charts illustrate facilitation techniques, not benchmarks for your employer. Students use the charts to practice explaining tradeoffs to partners outside engineering. The editorial stance is that cloud cost ops conversations fail when they begin with shame. We prefer neutral verbs: redirect, reschedule, resize. If your organization cannot share even anonymized numbers internally, you can still complete the workshop using synthetic spreadsheets shipped with the course files. That path is slightly slower but equally valid.
